Prescribing Parks for Health
What are Park Prescriptions?
Park Prescriptions (ParksRX) are programs where healthcare or social service providers encourage patients to spend time in nature as a pathway to better health and well-being. These programs thrive on collaboration between healthcare providers, park agencies, and community partners — each playing a role in reconnecting people with the healing power of nature.
Why It Works
The key to success is a backbone coordinator — someone who builds bridges between healthcare providers and our community. This coordinator onboards providers, receives referrals, connects participants with parks and recreation opportunities, and follows up to ensure meaningful, lasting engagement.
How You Can Help
The health sector often lacks resources to fund this critical role. With your support, we can sustain the coordinator position, equipping them with the tools and resources needed to guide participants toward healthier, more connected lives.
Together, we can make nature part of the prescription for a healthier Eugene.
