Terry Smith - President

Terry, now retired, was staff for the Mayor’s Parks & Open Space Committee in 1998 and a member of Parks & Open Space Bond measure PAC which successfully passed with 68 percent yes votes. He was a strong advocate for the renovation of Amazon Pool and assisted with the redesign. Terry worked for the City of Eugene for 25 years. He has been Deputy Director of Public Works, Acting Director of Library, Recreation & Cultural Services Department, and also served as Acting Assistant City Manager. He is currently the coach for high school Nordic ski teams and is active in other recreational pursuits.

Art is a Professor of Computer and Information Science at the University of Oregon. He was recently a member of the Mayor's Parks and Open Space Committee. Art coordinates the Friends of Eugene- Springfield Habitats (FRESH) conservation program for Lane County Audubon Society. He is an advocate for the inclusion of natural areas in parks and the use of natural systems in stormwater treatment.

Teresa is the Planning Director for Arlie & Company, a family-owned land development and diversified investment company. She oversees all planning projects for the company. She was previously the Principal Planner for the City of Chico, California and served 19 years as a Senior Planner with the City of Eugene. She brings to the board experience in managing complex projects that often led to the acquisition, design, or improvement of park and open space areas. She and her husband have lived in Eugene for over 25 years and raised three children. She enjoys many outdoor pursuits including hiking, bicycling, swimming, and gardening.

Angela is a CPA at the public accounting firm of Kernutt Stokes Brandt & Co. LLP. Prior to her relocation to Eugene in October 2008, she spent seven years as the Cost Accountant for the largest locally-owned financial institution in Austin, Texas--University Federal Credit Union. Angela offers her financial accounting expertise to the Board and looks forward to serving. As a recent transplant, Angela spends much of her free time exploring Oregon's natural areas with her partner, Darrell, and her dog, Murphy.
Sarah Bascom
Sarah is the mother of three outdoor-loving little children, Hanna 7, Andrew 5, and Bode 3, who along with their Golden Retriever, Maddie, make frequent use of Hendricks Park, Washburn Park, Alton Baker Park Canoe Canal, and Spencer Butte Trails. She has served as honorary co-chair for the Eugene Education Fund Campaign and helped organize the Congregational Preschool Trike-athon. Prior to motherhood she was enrolled in the Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Oregon. She enjoys gardening with her children, telemark skiing with her husband, and collecting fresh eggs from a chicken coop in her backyard.
Steve Johnson
Steve is a former University of Oregon faculty member and is currently President of Northwest Survey & Data Services. He was a member of the Mayor's Parks and Open-space Committee and a member of the Parks For All Of Us PAC for the 1998 parks bond measure. Steve is currently president of Emerald Aquatics Swim Team which rents pool space from the city.
Lindsey Kruger
Lindsey Kruger works in the Accounting Department at Arlie & Company. Since moving to Eugene 5 years ago, she has volunteered for SMART and at various non-profit events. She brings to the board knowledge of construction accounting and enthusiasm for the outdoors. In 2003, Lindsey graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a Bachelors of Arts Degree and majored in English. While in college she lived in France for 6 months and travelled throughout Europe. Lindsey enjoys white water river rafting, hiking, reading, and whale watching.
Darryl L. Larson
Daryl was appointed as a Judge in Lane County in 1990 after an 18-year career with the Lane County District Attorney’s office. He is the current chair of the Governor’s Meth Task Force Treatment Subcommittee, past chair of the Governor's Advisory Board on Drugs and Violent Crime and past board member of the Oregon Board on Police Standards and Training, the Chief Justice’s Task Force on Gender Fairness, Birth to Three, Boy Scouts of America, Active 20-30 Club, and a member of the Eugene Rotary Club. Judge Larson is the Rotary Club’s Skinner Butte RiverPlay Playground Project.
Larry Newby
Larry is a semi-retired Broker/Owner of Coburg Real Estate, a Sole Proprietor residential Brokerage. Born at Sacred Heart he is a "rare" native over 60! Larry holds a 1974 BS Degree from the University of Oregon in Recreation and Park Management and has long been an advocate of the theory of recreation being "constructive use of leisure time"! As a "native" and active community volunteer, Larry brings a wide network of contacts to the Eugene Parks Foundation Board.
Jenny Ulum
Jenny Ulum is the founder of the region’s largest public relations/public affairs firm, The Ulum Group. In 2008 she is serving as interim public affairs director for PeaceHealth. Jenny served on the Mayor's Parks and Open Space Committee in 1998 and helped pass the successful Parks For All Of Us bond measure campaign that year. In addition to serving on the Eugene Parks Foundation board, she is past chair of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce board and is on the boards of several other nonprofit organizations. With her husband and 9-year-old daughter, she enjoys the area’s parks, pools and trails.
Tim Verkler
Tim has been a real estate broker at RE/MAX Integrity since 1997. He graduated from the UO in 1976 with a degree in Education, owned a home building business, and co-owned Le Petit Gourmet Bakery when it was located in Oasis Marketplace. He recently published a photo journal book, Denali Diary, about a 60 day mountain climbing expedition that was organized through the UO Outdoor Program in 1975. A father of three sons, Tim bikes regularly along the river and hikes up Spencer's Butte every Sunday morning.
Linda Wheatley
Linda retired from the Springfield School District in 2001 where she taught English and ESL. After retiring, she worked for Pacific University as a student teacher supervisor until 2007. She co-chaired the public art project “Ducks on Parade” for three years and is currently co-chairing the Riverloop Connection project with her husband Steve. She spends her free time traveling, walking, hiking, and enjoying music, dance, and theater.
